What Are Dental Implants?

You are probably asking yourself, what is a dental implant and how can it be helpful to me? A dental implant is useful when you are missing one tooth, multiple teeth, or even all of your teeth. Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically inserted into the gums and naturally fuse with the jawbone.

An implant becomes a fully integrated replacement tooth root, which is an essential component of a fully functioning, healthy smile. Implants help stabilize your restoration and prevent jawbone erosion, and they’re able to serve as anchors for crowns, bridges, and dentures alike.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

If you’re interested in rebuilding your missing teeth with dental implants in Goose Creek, you might consider undergoing treatment from our team at Carolina Complete Dental. Not only do we have the advanced dental technology necessary for ensuring long-lasting results, but we can also perform the entire treatment plan under one roof. Don’t hesitate to contact our office so that you can schedule your consultation. In the meantime, here are the four major steps of the dental implant process.

Initial Dental Implant Consultation

The first step of every dental implant process is a consultation with Dr. Barganier, our leading implant expert at Carolina Complete Dental. During this visit, our team will take diagnostic images, examine your teeth and gums, collect your medical history, and help you determine whether dental implants in Goose Creek are the best tooth replacement treatment for you.

We’ll also verify that you do not have any underlying complications that could risk failure in the future, such as gum disease, decay, or insufficient jawbone density. Some patients may require preliminary services to prepare their mouth, such as gum disease treatment, tooth extractions, or bone grafting. Once you’ve received any necessary procedures and are ready for dental implants, we can move forward with your procedure.

Dental Implant Surgery

Dr. Barganier has additional oral surgery training that allows him to surgically place the dental implants in-house, alongside our Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Tim McAdams. This means that you can be sure to undergo a pain-free procedure, and you won’t have to worry about having to travel to another location for the process. We can also provide sedation dentistry so that you can be as relaxed as possible during your appointment. During your surgery, Dr. Bargainer will make a tiny incision in your gums to place the implants before suturing the tissue closed. He’ll then place a dental cap to protect the metal post and then you’ll have your friend or family member take you home so that you can recover.

Dental Implant Osseointegration & Abutment

Over the following three to six months, your gums will heal and your dental implants will fuse with your jawbone through a process called osseointegration. Once this is complete, our team will attach small connector pieces to the top of your implants, called abutments, and take a digital impression to create your replacement teeth.

Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s)

After we receive your permanent restoration, we’ll be able to secure it onto your dental implants to complete your smile and finish the treatment. Once we’ve placed your new dental crown, bridge, or denture and confirmed your bite is correct and that you’re happy with your results, you’ll be free to go and enjoy your new teeth.

Implant Dentures & All-On-4 Options Available!

If you’re missing most or all of your natural teeth, we highly recommend implant dentures which help prevent the jawbone from deteriorating. Dr. Barganier also offers All-On-4 dental implants, which is an advanced technique that’s ideal for patients who have experienced jawbone erosion and are looking to replace an entire row of missing teeth.

Day-to-Day Benefits

Dental implants may improve your daily quality of life in several ways:

  • Improved ability to eat. Dental implants provide a strong bite force that can stand up to almost any food, so you can enjoy a wide range of nutritious and tasty meal options.
  • A beautiful smile. We carefully design implant restorations so they look both beautiful and natural.
  • Easy maintenance. In many ways, taking good care of dental implants is similar to caring for natural teeth. Good oral hygiene and regular dental visits are both essential.
  • Clear speech. Speech is the product of complex interactions between several structures in your body, including your teeth. Dental implants may allow you to communicate with confidence and clarity.

Health Benefits

Dental implants may support your health in multiple ways:

  • Jawbone preservation. Dental implants help maintain the integrity of your jawbone by stimulating it in a manner similar to natural tooth roots. This prevents bone loss and preserves your facial structure.
  • A more nutritious diet and lower risk of disease. The strong bite force provided by dental implants allows you to enjoy a wide variety of healthy, nutrient-rich foods, which can lower your risk for conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.
  • Protection for remaining natural teeth. Unlike traditional bridges, dental implants do not usually require alteration of your natural enamel. This preserves the health and structure of your remaining teeth. Plus, implants can serve as a placeholder that prevents nearby teeth from drifting out of place.

Long-Term Benefits

Dental implants can start delivering benefits soon after your procedure, and they can continue to serve you well for many years. Some of their long-term advantages include:

  • Value for your money. Dental implants are a long-term investment in your health and quality of life. Unlike other tooth replacement options that may require frequent repairs or replacements, implants are designed to last for decades with proper care. Their cost per day over the course of time is very reasonable!
  • The durable materials used in dental implants, such as titanium, are resistant to corrosion and wear. This ensures that your implants can withstand the rigors of daily use, offering reliable functionality and aesthetic appeal for the long-term.
  • Better health during senior years. Did you know that extensive tooth loss is associated with a decreased life expectancy? Dental implants can minimize or eliminate many of the challenges caused by tooth loss, such as poor nutrition and feelings of social isolation. They may help you thrive well into your senior years!

Understanding the Cost of Dental Implants

The cost of dental implants depends on several factors. During your consultation, our Goose Creek team will discuss specific numbers with you and help you understand your payment options, such as insurance and financing. While dental implants can cost more than other forms of tooth replacement, they are an excellent value! Their longevity, strength, and other benefits make them a wise use of funds for health-conscious individuals who want a reliable solution for missing teeth.

Preliminary Treatments & Dental Implant Surgery

Some patients require preliminary treatments, such as gum disease therapy, tooth extractions, or a bone graft, before they can move forward with dental implants. Logically, each of those services comes with its own fee.

The dental implant surgery has a separate cost. At Carolina Complete Dentistry, we are able to perform this complex process in-house, so you will not have to worry about dealing with the pricing structure of an outside specialist.

The Parts of Your Dental Implant

The materials used in your procedure will have a bearing on overall costs. Some things that will be figured into the price of your care include:

  • The number of implants you need
  • The type of restoration you require (crown, bridge, or denture)
  • The specific type of materials used to create your restoration (porcelain is a common option)
  • The brand/manufacturer of your dental implants

Our team strives to use only top-quality materials from reputable sources. If you have questions about where your implants come from, feel free to ask.

The Remarkable Value of Dental Implants

While dental implants have a higher upfront cost than other treatments, you can rightly view them as an investment. In fact, they might even help you save money in the long run in a few different ways:

  • Dental implants can last for decades. They require much less frequent replacement than traditional dentures. Therefore, their cost per day over the course of time is actually quite affordable.
  • They protect your health. Dental implants can boost your confidence, allow you to eat a nutritious diet, and support the health of your remaining natural teeth. By supporting your overall wellness, they might reduce medical costs throughout your lifetime.

Does My Dental Insurance Cover Dental Implants?

Some dental insurance plans cover implants, while others do not. You should check the details of your policy to find out how it might apply. Even if it does not cover implants themselves, it is likely to cover a portion of the cost of other parts of your procedure, such as preliminary care and your final restoration. Our team welcomes PPO insurance, and we will be happy to help you figure out how you can maximize your benefits.
