Can I Eat While Wearing My SureSmile Aligners?

No, you should not eat while wearing your SureSmile aligners. Doing so could cause them to warp or break. Or, food might end up getting trapped against your teeth, which could significantly increase your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The only thing you should consume while wearing your aligners is plain water.

Remember to store your aligners properly at mealtimes so you do not accidentally misplace them. Never store them in a napkin (some patients have accidentally thrown theirs away), and give them a thorough rinse before placing them back in your mouth.

What Should I Do if I Break One of My Aligners?

If the clear aligner just has some hairline cracks, you might be able to continue using it; just be very careful when taking it in and out of your mouth. If the aligner is no longer wearable, give us a call. We may advise one of the following:

• Wear a previous aligner until we can order a replacement for the broken one.
• Move forward to your next aligner a few days early. (Do not do this without our permission. Going to the next aligner too soon could be very uncomfortable, and it might not even fit on your teeth.)
