What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that we attach to the outward-facing surface of the teeth. Their job is to hide imperfections and give the appearance of a flawless smile. They can be used to address many different issues, including:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Small gaps between the teeth
  • Oddly shaped or asymmetrical teeth
  • Severe discoloration
  • And more!

Veneers are usually made of porcelain, a very durable material that is almost indistinguishable from natural tooth enamel. It is also highly resistant to stains and has the potential to last for 10 – 15 years or longer.

The Process of Getting Veneers

The process of getting veneers takes place across a few appointments. To get things started, you will attend a cosmetic consultation. We will verify that you are a candidate for veneers and use advanced software to design your new look.

Next, we have to prepare your teeth by removing a sliver of enamel from them; this helps to make sure that your veneers look natural and adhere well to your teeth. You will wear temporary veneers while a dental laboratory fabricates your permanent ones, which will be based on highly accurate impressions of your teeth.

When your permanent veneers are ready, we will verify that their size, shape, and color meet our expectations. Then, we will attach them to your teeth.

Benefits of Veneers

Veneers offer many benefits, including:

  • Natural appearance: Veneers closely mimic the look and translucency of natural teeth. Onlookers may not be able to tell that you had a bit of cosmetic work done!
  • Stain resistance: Porcelain is non-porous, which means that pigments tend to slide right off it. In other words, you can enjoy coffee and other dark foods and beverages without being overly worried about how they will affect your smile.
  • Durability: Veneers are crafted from strong materials that withstand normal biting and chewing forces. They often last for 10 – 15 years or longer with proper care.
  • Custom design: Each veneer is customized to match your tooth size, shape, and color. This ensures a flattering, lifelike enhancement for your smile.
  • Boosted confidence: An improved smile often leads to greater self-assurance in social and professional situations. Many patients report feeling more positive about their appearance.
  • Easy maintenance: In many ways, taking good care of veneers is just like caring for natural teeth. Thorough oral hygiene and regular dental checkups are both important!

Understanding the Cost of Veneers

Man budgeting for the cost of dental care

The cost of veneers depends on how many of them you receive and other factors. Our team can provide an estimate during your consultation.

Since veneers are an elective procedure, you should not expect your dental insurance to cover them. However, other provisions that might make them more affordable include:

  • A payment plan through Compassionate Finance or CareCredit
  • Our CDC Prime Membership Plan, which offers a 10% discount on services performed in our office
