Consequences of Damaged & Missing Teeth

When damaged or missing teeth are left untreated, the consequences happen like a snowball effect. A damaged tooth is more prone to tooth decay, and further breakage. The surrounding teeth can begin to shift or rotate, and your bite can become compromised. A compromised bite can lead to TMJ problems. When a missing tooth is left unreplaced, the underlying jawbone will begin to deteriorate, which causes a ‘sunken face’ appearance.

Aside from the oral health consequences, a damaged or missing tooth can lower your quality of life and self-esteem. It can also be difficult and painful to enjoy your favorite foods, and to speak and smile with confidence.

Whether there was an accident, or the passing of time has caused this damage, our dentists at Carolina Complete Dental can help restore your smile’s health and function with our restorative dental services.

Same-Day Crowns

Dental crowns are restorations for teeth that are cracked, broken or are overly decayed and need more complete repair than a filling can offer. Crowns cover the entire tooth, protecting it from further damage or decay and strengthening it. At Carolina Complete Dental, we use CEREC technology to create dental crowns right in our office, all in a single appointment!

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, which uses 3D imaging through a computer to redesign and restore your tooth in one visit. This involves preparing the tooth, designing the crown, milling it in-house, and placing it atop the prepared tooth. Overall, this treatment takes between one and three hours.

The benefits of same day crowns include:

  • Fewer injections
  • No messy impressions
  • No temporaries
  • No return visits
  • Precision technology
  • Durable and natural looking
  • Applies to replacing and repairing teeth
  • A restored smile in a single visit instead of several weeks

Tooth-Colored Fillings

In the past, the only way to fill a cavity and stop decay was to use metal fillings. These combined a mixture of silver and mercury that expanded and contracted with changes in temperature, leading to damage, further breakage, and sensitivity. Not only are the functional aspects bothersome, but they are also a glaring reminder of the dental work you previously had every time you open up your mouth.

At Carolina Complete Dental, we use metal-free, tooth-colored fillings. These restorations are much better and safer than amalgam (metal) fillings. They don’t expand and contract with temperature changes, meaning they don’t allow bacteria to enter and cause further decay as old amalgam fillings can.

Besides being superior in function, they are virtually undetectable—once in place, they blend in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. These composite fillings are safer, stronger, and more aesthetically pleasing than metal fillings of the past.
